From my little Newbury Street in Boston, to the two mile stretch of Bond Street in London, the streets of fashion range from luxury to classic, extravagant to timeless, and fill in just about every space in between. There are so many streets that could be included in this list, but these are a few that I have either visited myself or have a personal connection to through a friend or family member who has visited. What is your favorite fashion street? Share in the comments! Fifth Avenue in New York City The perfect combination of timeless and modern, Fifth Avenue is the quintessential city shopping street. Whether the sidewalks are covered in snow in the middle of winter, or the hot city sun is out during the summer months, Fifth Avenue is always flooded with shoppers of all ages. Madison Grumer, Allocation Analyst for TJ Maxx, captures the essence of winter on Fifth Avenue perfectly: “Fifth Ave is my favorite place to be during the holiday season. All of the department store window displays are a main attraction—they’re amazing!” Fifth Avenue is home to some of the top luxury brands in the world, but also balances that prestige with the perfect amount of masstige brands for a more affordable day of shopping. It’s the place I go whenever I need or want something special—like a new Henri Bendel cross body during Christmas time or a new shirt and tie for my dad from Brooks Brothers—because that’s what Fifth Ave is. It’s special. Newbury Street in Boston The mile long street of brownstones exudes classic Boston character. It may not boast the Guccis and Pradas of the world, but it has its own sense of style. A style that combines the classics; such as Rag & Bone and Lucky Brand; various consignment stores where I’ve found some of my favorite signature pieces; and a fantastic spread of cafes and restaurants (I recommend Pavement Coffee and Met Back Bay). According to Grumer, Newbury Street is the perfect place to take a summer stroll and watch the passersby during a day of shopping—I couldn’t agree more! On the contrary, one of my favorite times of day to go to Newbury Street is early in the morning when people haven’t yet started to populate the streets—it’s incredibly calming. Newbury Street will always hold a special place in my heart because it’s the street I grew up shopping on, and the street I will always come back to for a new pair of shoes and the perfect cup of coffee. Bond Street in London Oh, the opulence! Bond Street is perhaps the most extravagant shopping street in the world. One can expect to see all of the most prestigious luxury brands scattered along the two mile strip of Bond Street, creating a feeling of excellence and indulgence. And that’s exactly what Bond Street shoppers do—they indulge. Every store door is an opportunity to indulge in the latest fashion trend, or a timeless classic. And, being one of Europe’s busiest boulevards, you’re sure to find exactly what you’re looking for! Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills Known as “the intersection of luxury, fashion, and entertainment,” Rodeo Drive is the place to be in Beverly Hills. It’s your best bet for not only finding some of the best fashion in the country, but also for spotting some of the most famous celebrities and nicest cars out there. Many who visit the area describe it as “the flashiest street in all of the US.” Some would argue that it’s over the top. Regardless, there’s no arguing that Rodeo Drive is one of the most expensive and luxurious shopping streets in the world. Via Monte Napoleone in Milan In exploring Via Monte Napoleone, I reached out to the source—a Milan native! Nikolai Markin, whose family is from Milan and who recently spent a few months studying there, shared his opinions about the famous street. “Where new fashion is found,” “The next generation of fashion,” “High end fashion of the future,” “The street of haute couture.” He even joked that it’s “where you only window shop.” He might be right—Via Monte Napoleone is a place that some people (myself included!) can only dream of shopping. I guess that’s part of what makes it so luxurious.
